How to play Xiangqi
- Each side has 16 pieces: General, 2 Advisors, 2 Elephants, 2 Chariots, 2 Cannons, 2 Horses, 5 Soldiers. Red moves first.
- The General and Advisors stay in the palace. Elephants cannot cross the river.
- A Cannon captures by jumping over exactly one piece. A blocked Horse cannot move that way.
- The two Generals may not face each other on an open file.
- Checkmate the enemy General, or leave them with no legal move, to win.
